Resize a Signature for Online Application Forms

Updated · PixKB

Exam and job forms ask for a signature file with an exact size and a narrow KB range, and a phone photo of a signature is nowhere near either. This tool crops, resizes and compresses it to the form's rules on your own device; nothing is uploaded.

Match the portal's rule

Everything runs in your browser using the HTML5 Canvas — your photo is never uploaded to any server.

About 2.0 MB, saved once on this device. Then it works with no internet.

How to resize your signature

  1. Sign in black ink on plain white paper. Photograph it from directly above in daylight, with no shadow from your phone.
  2. Crop the photo close to the signature (your phone's editor is fine), leaving a little white space around it.
  3. Tap Choose image above. On Form presets the SSC signature preset is selected; pick another if your form differs.
  4. Tap Apply preset, check the preview, then Download result.

For a form without a preset, set its size on the Dimensions tab, tap Keep editing this result, then compress to its KB range on Exact KB.

Signature rules for common forms

PPSC (Pakistan)No signature rule in PPSC's photograph guidelines—

Preset results from our test signature (a real signature photographed on paper, cropped to 1450×1180 pixels), desktop Chromium, October 2026. 709×236 pixels is 6×2 cm at 300 DPI. Both results are inside their ranges whichever way the portal counts a kilobyte.

Crop first: what we measured

We compressed the same signature twice: once as the whole photo (the paper, the desk and a pen, 7500×5005 pixels) and once cropped to the signature.

Same signatureExact KB, at or under 10 KBSSC signature preset (10–20 KB)
Whole photo, desk and pen included420×280 px, 9,973 bytes; the signature is a small smudge in a desk photo709×236 px, 19,025 bytes; the whole desk photo is fitted into the frame
Cropped to the signature462×376 px, 9,976 bytes; strokes crisp and filling the frame709×236 px, 19,331 bytes; the signature fills the frame

The SSC preset fits the whole picture into 6×2 cm without cutting anything off, adding white space where the shapes differ. So whatever you give it ends up in the file: crop to the signature first and the signature is what fills the space.

The UPSC three-signature sheet

For 2026, UPSC asks you to sign three times, one below the other, on a white sheet, and upload a single image of all three. Sign inside a roughly square area, photograph and crop it, then use the UPSC signature preset: it keeps the file between 20 and 100 KB and fits the sheet into 500×500 pixels (UPSC states no pixel size; 500×500 is our choice, large enough to keep all three signatures legible). See SSC and UPSC 2026 changes for details.

Common mistakes

Frequently asked questions

What size is an SSC signature?

6×2 cm (709×236 pixels at 300 DPI), JPG, 10–20 KB. The SSC signature preset makes exactly that.

Why is my signature rejected even though the KB is right?

Check the pixel size too. Many forms set both, and a file with the right KB but the wrong dimensions still fails. Presets handle both.

Should I sign in black or blue ink?

Black, unless your form says otherwise. It photographs with the strongest contrast.

My signature file is under 10 KB. What do I do?

That's below SSC's minimum. The preset keeps it inside 10–20 KB; for other forms, use Exact KB with At least target, or see increase image size in KB.

Can I draw my signature on screen instead?

Most forms expect a photo or scan of a signature on paper, and it should match the one you sign in person. Sign on paper.

How do I make the UPSC three-signature image?

Sign three times, one below another, on white paper. Photograph and crop it, then apply the UPSC signature preset (500×500 pixels, 20–100 KB).

Does FPSC or PPSC need a signature file?

FPSC's online form has no signature upload, and PPSC's photograph guidelines give no signature rule.

Is my signature uploaded to PixKB?

No. It's processed in your browser and saved to your device.
